Coach arrives for loading at Highland Elementary in Owensboro, KY.
6:00 PM
Depart for Washington D.C. with rest stops, driver change & meal breaks en route.
Day 2 – Wednesday, March 9
Breakfast stop and time to freshen up before today’s activities
9:30 AM
The Smithsonian Institute, encompassing more than a dozen different buildings and a must see on any Washington DC visit!
10:30 AM
We will eat an early lunch while at the Smithsonian.

Drive-by view of the Iwo Jima Memorial.  The Marine Corps War Memorial stands as a symbol of this grateful Nation's esteem for the honored dead of the U.S. Marine Corps.  While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in the defense of the United States.
12:15 PM
Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery.  We will have the opportunity to visit the 500 acre site that contains the graves of President John F. Kennedy, his wife Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and his brothers, Robert and Ted Kennedy.  We will view the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers that is changed every hour on the hour in an elaborate ritual.

Depart for Holocaust Museum to go through security

Holocaust MuseumRemember the Children: Daniel’s Story” is an exhibition for children at the museum.  It presents the history of the Holocaust in ways that children can understand.

Depart for Mt Vernon - our nation’s first president’s home.  At Mount Vernon, we will be given special opportunities to experience Washington’s home, take in panoramic views, visiting Washington’s tomb, seeing the innovative Pioneer Farmer site with its 16-sided barn, the inspirational Slave Memorial, important outbuildings, lush gardens, and museums with exhibitions on Washington and Mount Vernon archaeology.  Everyone will receive a Food Court lunch voucher at Mt Vernon.

We will be joined by a knowledgeable local expert that will give a half day guided tour of Washington DC.  We’ll hear about the history & events that shape our country, visit the national memorials, see federal buildings and more.

Arrive at National Archives and go through security

The National Archives is one of the museums in the Smithsonian Institute and is our nation’s record keeper.  The stories of our nation and our people are told in the records and artifacts cared for in NARA facilities around the country.

Depart for monument and go through security

The Washington Monument is the most prominent structure in Washington, D.C. and one of the city's early attractions.  It was built in honor of George Washington, who led the country to independence and then became its first President
